Don’t get me wrong, perks are a great bonus to many companies — but they’re not everything your employees want.
When I interview a potential team member, perks are one of the last things discussed. Instead, start with storytelling about your culture and values. Have an honest discussion about what’s important to you and your company. Explain the rules to play in your environment. When you set the expectations up front, you’ll start hiring people who fit in with others who want to play within those rules.
